Technically, according to Ford, the crush sleeve HAS to be replace every time. According to Ford, so does the pinion nut. I've seen a lot of guys re-use both of those parts without any damage, but it isn't the "correct" way to do the procedure. You need a visual inspection.

I wouldn't use any less than that, and that's what I plan to start with, after scrutinizing the oilpan. At 20 ft/lbs, a crush washer gets dented for sure, but it's meant to dent so it can stop leaks due to an imperfect surface.
